What procedure must I follow if I have an accident with my Thrifty rental vehicle?

In the unfortunate event of an accident in your hired car, follow the below steps:

  1. Remain calm and call for assistance for any injured persons. Do not leave the scene of the accident.
  2. Do not admit liability
  3. Take down all details for other parties / driver(s) / witnesses involved:
    Name, Identification number, Vehicle registration number, Insurance details and contact details.
  4. Notify My Car Rental Ltd, T/a Thrifty Car Rental immediately. You can do so by calling our national number +23 06 379 795
  5. Do not allow the vehicle to be towed away unless it is by somebody authorised to do so by My Car Rental Ltd, T/a Thrifty Car Rental.
  6. Report the accident to the South African Police Service. Make sure you obtain a reference or case number.
  7. Complete and submit a My Car Rental Ltd, T/a Thrifty Car Rental Damage Report when returning to a Thrifty branch or when a replacement vehicle is provided.
